Code of Conduct for P.S.H.S South Crew Rowers

The objectives of the PSHS South Crew team are:

• To build strong bodies and good character..
• To discover leadership talent and develop it.
• To teach the value of teamwork and cooperation to achieve goals.
• To foster a winning attitude and a spirit of good sportsmanship through athletic competition.
• To foster a safe and respectful environment for the youth of Parkersburg to practice and compete.

Respect for Others

Coaches - The coaching staff is dedicated to PSHS South Crew objectives. I will respect and obey the coaches at all times.

Coxswains - When in a boat or launching or retrieving a boat, the coxswain is in command of the boat. I will remain silent and follow the commands of my coxswain without comment.

Fellow Team Members – I will treat fellow crew team members with respect and courtesy at all times. Everyone’s time is valuable; If I am late or absent from a practice or regatta, it is disrespectful of my boatmates and harms the whole club.

Respect for Self

Personal Behavior – I am responsible for my behavior. I understand that profane language and vulgar behavior are signs of weakness and will not be tolerated. I further understand that I represent an organization and that my character reflects the character of the club.

Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco – These are harmful to my body and mind and I will not use them at any time.

Academics – My most important asset is my mind. I am expected to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in order to remain a member of the crew team.

Respect for Property

Property and Equipment – I will inspect my boat and equipment before and after each use. When damage occurs, I will report it to my coach as soon as possible.

Other People’s Property – I will respect others property, including other crew teams, parents cars, hotels, and organizations hosting regattas, and I will treat these with the same care and respect as if they were my own.

By signing this document, I am stating that I have read, fully understand, and agree to abide by the policies and guidelines outlined in this document. 

I understand that failure to adhere to the policies and guidelines will result in the appropriate disciplinary action as stated in the Patriot Crew Information and Guidelines and possible forfeiture of rowing fees. 

I have read the above PSHS South Crew Information and Guidelines and agree to follow the guidelines to the best of my ability.

As a rower’s parent/guardian, buy signing this document, I am stating that I understand the guidelines, rules, and discipline that my child will be expected to follow.  I am also stating that if I have a question/comment/complaint about any coaching issue, I will contact a member of the PSHS South Crew coaching staff to discuss.  If I am unsatisfied with the discussion with the coach, I will then contact the current Athletic Director at Parkersburg South High School.  I will not contact a Booster Member – because I understand that the Patriot Crew Boosters, Inc. are not involved in any way with coaching decisions.
